1.0  SUMMARY

RUNOFF is a text processing program.  RUNOFF will format  input  text,
generate  tables,  build  lists,  handle  page  and section numbering.
RUNOFF allows a user to make all sorts of changes to  the  text  of  a
document  and  still produce a clean, well formatted result.  This DOC
file was generated with RUNOFF.

RUNOFF version 11(251) runs on all releases of TOPS-20.

RUNOFF is loaded with SCAN11 and WILD11 and HELPER.

RUNOFF is documented in GETTING STARTED WITH RUNOFF.



2.0  EXTERNAL CHANGES

There are no external changes in RUNOFF for Release 4.



3.0  KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES

As of 22-Jan-79  the  following  restrictions  and  deficiencies  were
known:

     RUNOFF  uses the compatibility package so file  name  recognition
             does not work.



4.0  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS


4.1  Files Needed to Run RUNOFF

RUNOFF consists of 3 files:

     RUNOFF.EXE - which is the complete RUNOFF program.

     RUNOFF.HLP - which describes how to run the RUNOFF program.

     RUNINP.HLP - which is a brief summary of RUNOFF input commands.

4.2  Instructions for Loading and Installing RUNOFF

Mount the tape labeled  Distribution  Tape  on  MTA0:   and  type  the
following commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWIND
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 2
     RESTORE <*>RUNOFF.EXE (TO) SYS:*.*.-1
     REWIND


4.3  Files Needed to Build RUNOFF

RUNOFF is built from the following files:

     RUNOFF.MAC
     RNFSCC.MAC
     SCAN11.REL
     WILD11.REL
     HELPER.REL
     MONSYM.UNV
     MACSYM.UNV
     MACTEN.UNV


4.4  Instructions for Building RUNOFF

Mount the tape labeled  Distribution  Tape  on  MTA0:   and  type  the
following commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWIND
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 3
     RESTORE <*>*.*.* (TO) <self>*.*.*
     REWIND
     ^C
     SUBMIT RUNOFF.CTL/TIME/UNIQ:0/REST


                                 NOTE

               RUNOFF is a  TOPS-10  program  converted
               for  use  on TOPS-20.  It is possible to
               build  all  the  TOPS-10  variations  of
               RUNOFF  from  the  RUNOFF.MAC file.  The
               only version supported on TOPS-20 is one
               with TOPS-20.

6.0  SUGGESTIONS

The following suggestions are being considered for a future version of
RUNOFF:

     1.  Add hyphenation

     2.  Add a method of generating pictures and flow charts
