1.0  SUMMARY

FORMAT Provides the mechanism for formatting  and/or  verifying  RP04,
RP05 RP06 disk packs that are configured to RH20's.  FORMAT produces a
pack in the identical  format  to  one  that  was  created  using  the
diagnostic,  "DDRPI".   FORMAT  runs  during  timesharing  only, while
"DDRPI" can FORMAT in STAND-ALONE mode only.

FORMAT Version 1(0) runs on TOPS20 Release 3.

FORMAT will be documented in  the  operators  Guide  and  Installation
Guide  for TOPS20 Release 3A.  Until this time, the only documentation
is the file:  FORMAT.HLP.



2.0  EXTERNAL CHANGES

There are no external changes for Release 3.



3.0  KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES

FORMAT can not be run under batch multiple copies for FORMAT  can  not
be run WHEEL or Operator PRIV are required to run FORMAT.



4.0  Installation and Build Instructions


4.1  Files Needed to Run FORMAT

FORMAT consists of one file, FORMAT.EXE


4.2  Instructions for Load and Installing FORMAT

Mount the tape labled Distribution on MTA0:  and  type  the  following
commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWING
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 2
     RESTORE <*>FORMAT.EXE (TO) <SUBSYS>*.*.-1
     REWIND

4.3  Files Needed to Build FORMAT

FORMAT is built from the following file

     FORMAT.MAC

In addition, the following file must be on <SUBSYS>

     MONSYM.UNV


4.4  Instructions for Building FORMAT

Mount the tape labled Distribution on MTA0:  and  type  the  following
commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWIND
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 3
     RESTORE <*>*.*.* (TO) <SELF>*.*.*
     REWIND
     ^C
     SUBMIT FORMAT.CTL/TIME/UNIQ:0/RES
