This software includes support for GALAXY and TOPS-20 release 4.0. The operator interface has now been integrated with the other spoolers, providing for more uniform operating procedures. BEWARE FILE FOR DN65 WITH TOPS20 RELEASE 4.0 Page 4 LIST OF FILES INCLUDED IN DN65 RELEASE FOR TOPS-20 RELEASE 4.0 2.0 LIST OF FILES INCLUDED IN DN65 RELEASE FOR TOPS-20 RELEASE 4.0 The files included in the DN65 release for TOPS20 release 4.0 are listed and described in the DN65 installation manual. The files consist of two types: 1. Spooler and Support files 2. Front End files The Spooler and Support files reside in the DECSystem-20 and run under the TOPS20 4.0 operating system. The Front End files are assembled to produce the DN65 Communication Software. This software resides in the Front End. BEWARE FILE FOR DN65 WITH TOPS20 RELEASE 4.0 Page 5 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 3.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The installation instructions and procedures are described in DECSystem-10 (TOPS-20) DN65 Installation Manual. Consult the manual for a complete description of the process. The manual may be ordered by asking for: IBM Emulation/Termination DN65:2780/3780/HASP AA-5095B-TM Current users of the DN64 should note that the installation instructions have changed substantially since the last release. The D60SPL program has been replaced by integrated support in LPTSPL and CDRIVE, plus a new spooler called IBMSPL. BEWARE FILE FOR DN65 WITH TOPS20 RELEASE 4.0 Page 6 WARNINGS OF KNOWN DEFICIENCIES 4.0 WARNINGS OF KNOWN DEFICIENCIES This list of deficiencies is divided into three sections: Termination, Emulation and General. The Termination section is applicable to sites that run the DN65 software in termination mode. The Emulation section applies sites running in emulation mode. The General section applies to both, begin deficiencies that reside under either termination or emulation. 4.1 Termination o If a termination station is running, a file is being output and the line drops the state of the lineprinter goes to OFFLINE. The line printer will never shutdown with an error and the job will never complete. The job should be aborted and the printer shutdown before attempting to restart the station. o If a RJE session has been completed and the TOPS20 operator shuts the IBM RJE node down (OPR SHUTDOWN NODE), the line is not disabled. This means that any node running on a dialup line will not hang up. Anyone running RJE communications over long-distance lines not wanting to pay for superflous telephone connect time should have an operator manually hang up the phone. 4.2 Emulation o The job running IBMSPL must be connected to a PS: directory. It does make any difference what directory, as long as it is on PS:. If IBMSPL is not connected to PS:, any files that are read from a IBM host to be printed on the lineprinter will not be queued. o If the IBM host is connected to the DN65 front end by a hardwired line, a session should be completed by sending a signoff message in a batch submission before shutting the node down. If this is not done it may not be possible to change protocols (between any two of HASP, 2780, and 3780) and restart a node on that particular line. BEWARE FILE FOR DN65 WITH TOPS20 RELEASE 4.0 Page 7 WARNINGS OF KNOWN DEFICIENCIES 4.3 General o It is possible to create two nodes (DEFINE NODE command to OPR) that have the same port and line identification. Unfortunately it is also possible to issue START NODE commands to both. This will create at least one node that will do very strange things. Normally one of the two nodes will generate enough fatal errors that it will shut down, but this is not garaunteed. So it is suggested that whoever defines the node and port/line correlation check it for consistency before allowing anyone to start a node. BEWARE FILE FOR DN65 WITH TOPS20 RELEASE 4.0 Page 8 DEPENDENCIES 5.0 DEPENDENCIES The DN65 software is dependent on all of the files in the 4.0 release package and the files indicated in the DN65 Installation Manual. In addition, all the hardware to support TOPS-20 and the DN65 Front End is required to be present and functioning. [End of DN65.BWR]
