INTRODUCTION                                                 31 Jan 83

1.0  INTRODUCTION

This document describes the procedures for building and running the
programs PSIRCV and PSISND. These are unsupported tools that provide
a facility to transfer files in image mode between two TOPS-20 systems
through a PPSN. The files are transferred in image mode, therefore
both binary and ASCII files may be transferred using these programs.

The software includes a pair of cooperating programs. The "master"
program is PSISND which initiates the virtual circuit and transfer the
files. The "slave" program is PSIRCV which waits for the connection
from PSISND and accepts data, file names and contents of files, and
write them to the DSK: logical device.

2.0  INSTALLATION INFORMATION

2.1  Inventory

The programs are supplied as source files in the PS:<TOOLS> saveset of
the TOPS-20 PSI Version 1.0 distribution tape. The files are

      o  IDLE.MAC
      o  PSINFT.BNF
      o  PSINFT.CTL
      o  PSINFT.MEM
      o  PSINFT.RNO
      o  PSIRCV.CTL
      o  PSIRCV.FOR
      o  PSISND.FOR

2.2  Utilities

You need the following software utilities to build the software

      o  MACRO-20 Assembler
      o  FORTRAN-20 Compiler (version 6.0 or 7.0)
      o COMGEN (included in the TOPS-20 PSI tape)

2.3  PPSN Dependent Information

If your PPSN is TELENET, you may skip this paragraph. Otherwise, edit
the FORTRAN source file PSISND.FOR. Replace all references of TELENET
by the appropriate name of your network, which is known to the MODULE
X25-ACCESS data base of your system's Network Management. For
example, you should replace TELENET with TRANSPAC, if your system is
located in France.

Edit the grammar file PSINFT.BNF which contains the template of the
NCP commands. Supply the appropriate values of your DECnet network

configuration for the first three parameters in the file

     <GATEWAY NODE NAME>
     <DECSYSTEM-20 NODE NAME>
     <DECSYSTEM-20 NODE NUMBER>

2.4  Assembling And Compiling

Submit the file PSINFT.CTL to assemble and compile the MACRO and
FORTRAN source files.

     @SUBMIT PSINFT.CTL <RET>

2.5  Network Management Information

Run the COMGEN program to produce the command file which will be
processed by NCP to set up the Network Management information in the
TOPS-20 PSI gateway node

     @COMGEN <RET>
     *PSINFT.CMD=PSINFT <RET>
     [Grammar produced 12 products]
     EXIT
     @

Run the OPR program. Enter the NCP command subset and take the
command file PSINFT.CMD

     @OPR <RET>
     OPR>ENTER NCP <RET>
     NCP>TAKE PSINFT.CMD <RET>
         .
         responses from NCP
         .
     NCP>EXIT <RET>
     @

Each time the TOPS-20 PSI gateway node is reloaded, you have to take
this command file before you can perform file transfer.

USAGE                                                        31 Jan 83

3.1 File Transfer To Your System

You need to login at the remote TOPS-20 PSI system in order to
transfer files from that system to yours.

If the PSIRCV is not running, submit the file PSIRCV.CTL to run it as
a batch job. If you wish, before submitting the batch control file,
you may edit the definition of the DSK: logical name to direct the
incoming files to appropriate directories.

     @SUBMIT PSIRCV.CTL <RET>

Login to the remote host system and run PSISND.

3.2 File Transfer From Your System

You need to find out if the remote TOPS-20 PSI system is running the
PSIRCV program to receive the files from your system.

Run PSISND and start the file transfer. Following is an example of
the session.

     @RUN PSISND <RET>
     DTE address: 311030300170 <RET> (remote system's DTE address)
     Calling ... Failed, state is 9 (call is cleared by the network)
     Calling ... Running (try again ...)

     From file: PSISND.EXE <RET> (file to send)
     To file: PSISND.EXE <RET> (received file name at remote system)

     From file: PSIRCV.EXE <RET>
     To file:   PSIRCV.EXE <RET>

     From file: <RET> (terminate file transfer session)
