			      Abstract

TAPSAV is a magnetic tape manipulation program which allows
the quick and convenient storage of disk files on tape. TAPSAV
maintains a magtape directory on disk, which allows the user to get
very quick tape directories, to delete and undelete files on tape,
and do speedy wildcard searches of the tape contents. A tape
directory can be rebuilt easily from tape should the disk copy be
lost.

TAPSAV is best at single-user file saving and restoration,
and is easy and safe to use. A logical saveset structure allows
easy seperation of types of information on the tape. Files on tape
are not disk-directory specific, and files may be saved and restored
from anywhere.	TAPSAV was designed to eliminate many of the
problems with standard DEC tape utilities, which weren't designed
for small-scale tape work.
