Hi, I'm LESCAL. Please tell me your name.
*H4
Have we met before?
*H:
If you answer "yes" on subsequent runs, the questions will be
abbreviated.  You may always abbreviate answers to 3 letters;
often one will do. I'll let you know when I get confused.
H=
Do you know about <RUBOUT> and ^U? Y or N?
*HP
To delete the last character typed, strike <RUBOUT>, which
prints as "\". It may be used repeatedly to delete several
characters.
HV
To delete an entire line before you have typed <RETURN>,
hold down the <CTRL> key and strike "U".
Hd
I have about 30 text lines of biography and calendar history.
Would you like me to print, type, or forget it? P, T, or F?
*Ho
Sorry, the printer is busy. You may type "T" or "F", as before,
or wait until the printer is free and type "P" again.

[About me]

I make calendars in any of 63 formats and inscribe holidays and
special dates of your choosing. I use current conventions forH

holidays and adjust those that begin floating in 1971, namely
Washington's Birthday, Memorial, Columbus, and Veterans Days.
H
If you would like to keep a copy of me with your special dates,
go through the questions to where I ask for years, then type ^C
and use the system "SAVE" command. Use "RUN" to restart.

[About the Gregorian Calendar]
H;
Our calendar is the product of several thousand years of
astronomical refinement and political manipulation. TraditionalH@
reasons for changing the calendar have been to betterHN
synchronize with the solar year, to extend ones stay in
political office, and to prove ones importance by "controlling"
time.
HU
A major reform was decreed by Julius Caesar, who made the year
365 days long, with an additional leap day every fourth year.Hd
To correct accumulated errors, the year 46 b.c. was made 445
days long. It came to be known as "the year of confusion".
Hr
In 1582, Pope Gregory made another correction and began the
omission of leap years on centesimal years that are notH
divisible by 400. Thus 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 willH
be.
H
Among others, Britain adopted the Gregorian Calendar and imposed
it on her colonies in 1752. Russia came around in 1918 and
Turkey joined the club in 1928.
H
The mean Gregorian year still differs from the solar year by
26.3 seconds, and the error is increasing by .53 seconds perH(
century. The increase represents the slowing rotation of the
earth, due to the tidal action of the moon.
H6
When Britain adopted the Gregorian Calendar in 1752, the eleven
days between Sept. 2 and 14 were deleted. Many workers were
upset over not being paid for that part of the month.
HB
Do you think they were wronged?
*HU
You may be interested to know that tomorrow has been cancelled,
so you won't need a calendar.
HZ
You may be interested to know that I have prepared the following
message for immediate release by TWX.

Chairman

U. S. Congress
Washington, D. C.

Dear sir:
Hr
I believe it is my duty to report that in a political
discussion held a few moments ago, H} expressed sympathy with the
Communist Conspiracy of 1752. I trust that your Committee
will take appropiate action.

Do you wish to reconsider your last answer?
*H
I am sorry, but you are too wishy-washy to make this dialogue
worthwhile. I suggest that you practice thinking clearly about
issues before you answer and call me again some time.
H$
Ok, you called my bluff.
H7
I wish to acknowledge the contributions of Lyndon B. Johnson,
Pope Gregory XIII, Julius Caesar, and Jesus Christ, without whose
help the calendar could have been much simpler.
