1.0  SUMMARY

4-SETSPD  is  a  privileged  system  program   which   processes   the
4-CONFIG.CMD file and, in so doing, sets many initial parameters about
the system such as:  initial line speeds, system  logical  names,  and
magtape logical to physical correspondences.

4-SETSPD version 4(15) runs only on Release 4 of TOPS-20.

4-SETSPD depends on the file PS:<SYSTEM>4-CONFIG.CMD.



2.0  EXTERNAL CHANGES

The following commands were added to SETSPD version 4(15).

     ENABLE TAPE-DRIVE-ALLOCATION
     ENABLE CLASS-SCHEDULER
     TAPE-MOUNT-DEFAULT DENSITY
     TAPE-MOUNT-DEFAULT DRIVE-TYPE
     TAPE-MOUNT-DEFAULT LABEL-TYPE
     TAPE-RECYCLE-PERIOD
     ARCHIVE-TAPE-RECYCLE-PERIOD
     CHANGE
     BACKGROUND
     BATCH-CLASS
     BIAS
     CREATE

The former for DECNET sites, and the latter for ARPANET sites.



3.0  KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES

None as of 30-Jan-79.



4.0  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS


4.1  Files Needed to Run 4-SETSPD

4-SETSPD consists of one file, 4-SETSPD.EXE and it reads  the  command
file PS:<SYSTEM>4-CONFIG.CMD.

4.2  Instructions for Loading and Installing SETSPD

Mount the tape labeled  Distribution  Tape  on  MTA0:   and  type  the
following commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWIND
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 2
     RESTORE <*>4-SETSPD.EXE (TO) SYSTEM:*.*.-1
     REWIND
     ^C


4.3  Files Needed to Build SETSPD

     SETSPD.MAC
     SERCOD.UNV
     SERCOD.REL

In addition, the following files must be on SYS:

     MACREL.REL
     MACSYM.UNV
     MONSYM.UNV


4.4  Instructions for Building SETSPD

Mount the tape labeled  Distribution  Tape  on  MTA0:   and  type  the
following commands:

     R DUMPER
     TAPE MTA0:
     REWIND
     DENSITY 1600-BPI
     SKIP 3
     RESTORE <*>*.*.* (TO) <self>*.*.*
     REWIND
     ^C
     SUBMIT SETSPD.CTL/TIME/UNIQ:0/REST

The command file PS:<SYSTEM>4-CONFIG.CMD is produced by using EDIT and
typing in the appropriate commands.


4.5  Special Considerations

SETSPD is run automatically by the monitor  when  it  is  started  and
whenever one of the front end PDP11's is reloaded.  It need however be
run under timesharing.
