There are no other files named fediag.txt in the archive.
THIS IS A FILE THAT EXPLAINS (HOPEFULLY) THE PROCEDURE THAT THE
AVERAGE "J. RANDOM" F.S. GUY CAN FOLLOW, TO RESTORE FILES FROM
THE -20 SIDE OF AN RP04/RP06 DISK PACK, TO THE FILES -11 SIDE OF
THAT SAME DISK.
THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT AUTOMATED, AND ASSUMES THAT THE
F.S. GUY IN QUESTION HAS JUST COMPLETED THE DIAGNOSTICS RESTORE
PROCESS TO THE <1-DIAGNOSTICS> THRU THE <8-DIAGNOSTICS> AREAS.
IT IS ASSUMED THAT YOU ARE READING THIS TEXT FILE AS
A RESULT OF HAVING COMPLETED THE "DIAG.ATO" COMMAND STRING. YOU
SHOULD HAVE A "TRANSLATION" OF THE <*-DIAGNOSTICS> AREAS, THAT
HAVE CONVERTED A <DIRECTORY> INTO A [P,PPN]. ARMED WITH THIS
INFORMATION, PROCEDE AS FOLLOWS:
1. FOR ALL OF THE TRANSLATIONS, SUBSTITUTE THE NUMBER
TO THE LEFT OF THE COMMA WITHIN THE SQUARE BRACKETS
WITH THE NUMBER 340. E.G. IF A <DIRECTORY> WAS
TRANSLATED AS 7,41 YOU WOULD SUBSTITUTE THE NUMBER
7 WITH THE NUMBER 340. DO THIS SUBSTITUTION FOR ALL
OF THE <DIAGNOSTICS> AREAS.
2. ENABLE YOUR PRIVLEDGES, AND CONNECT TO THE <F-S>
DIRECTORY.
3. TYPE FE FOLLOWED WITH A CARRIAGE RETURN.
4. TYPE 2 CONTROL C'S (^C ^C), DET$ CONT$ <CR>
(THIS WILL ALLOW THE PROGRAM "FE" TO RUN IN A "DETACHED"
MODE. YOUR TERMINAL SHOULD ECHOE IN THE FOLLOWING MANNER:
$ FE
^C
$DETACH (AND) CONTINUE
5. ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE AT THE CONSOLE TERMINAL,
TYPE A CONTROL BACKSLASH (^\) TO GET TO THE COMMAND
PARSER.
6.YOUR PROMPT WILL BE: PAR>
YOU TYPE: MC MOU <CR>
7. YOUR PROMPT WILL BE: MOU>
YOU WILL TYPE FE0: <CR>
8. YOUR PROMPT WILL BE: FE0: MOUNT COMPLETE
YOU WILL TYPE: CONTROL Z (^Z)
9. YOUR PROMPT WILL BE: PAR>
YOU WILL TYPE: MC PIP <CR>
10. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT: PIP>
THE ACTIONS THAT FOLLOW WILL LARGELY DEPEND ON WHETHER OR
NOT YOU HAVE EXISTING DIAGNOSTICS IN THE [6,11] AREA
ON THE FRONT END. IN THE MAJORITY OF CASES, THIS AREA
WILL HAVE CONTAINED DIAGNOSTICS, SINCE YOU ARE UPDATING
FROM A DIAGNOSTIC MAG-TAPE. IF THIS IS THE CASE, ALL
PREVIOUS DIAGNOSTICS MUST BE DELETED BEFORE TRANSFERING
NEW FILES. IF YOU ARE DELETING FILES, USE THIS COMMAND:
11. DB0:[6,11]*.*;*/DEL
THIS WILL CAUSE ALL FILES IN THE [6,11] DISK AREA TO BE
DELETED. IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME, SINCE THE -11 PIP IS NOT
VERY INTELLIGENT, AND CONSUMES MUCH TIME. WHEN THE ACTION
HAS BEEN COMPLETED, YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT: PIP>
12. NOW, YOU MAY BEGIN TO TRANSFER THE FILES FROM THE -20
SIDE ON DISK, TO THE -11 SIDE. YOU WILL BE USING THE
"TRANSLATIONS" YOU PREVIOUSLY PREFORMED. TO THE
PROMPT: PIP>
YOU WILL TYPE: DB0:[6,11]*.*=FE0:[340,X]*.* <CR>
(X= THE NUMBER FROM THE RIGHT HAND PORTION OF
THE TRANSLATED DIRECTORY). THIS NUMBER CHANGES
FOR EVERY DIFFERENT DIRECTORY.
THIS ACTION IS TIME CONSUMING, DEPENDING ON THE SIZE,
AND LENGTH OF THE FILES TRANSFERED, IT MAY TAKE AS
LITTLE AS 5 MINUTES, AND AS MUCH AS 35 MINUTES. YOU
MUST REPEAT THIS ACTION FOR EACH OF THE <*-DIAGNOSTICS>
DIRECTORIES EACH TIME YOU RECEIVE THE PROMPT: PIP>
13. WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRANSFER OF ALL OF THE
8 DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTICS DIRECTORIES, YOUR RESPONSE
TO THE PROMPT: PIP> WILL BE TO TYPE A CONTROL Z (^Z).
14. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT: PAR>
YOU WILL TYPE: MC DMO <CR>
15. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT: DMO>
YOU WILL TYPE: FE0:
16. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT:
FE0: DISMOUNT COMPLETE.
DMO>
YOU WILL TYPE: CONTROL Z (^Z)
17. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE PROMPT: PAR>
YOU WILL TYPE: CONTROL Z (^Z) AND TWO CONTROL C'S
(^C ^C). THIS WILL TAKE YOU BACK TO MONITOR ENTRY
LEVEL. YOU MUST NOW ATTACH TO THE JOB THAT IS
RUNNING THE JOB "FE".
TO DETERMINE WHICH JOB IS RUNNING THE PROGRAM "FE", DO
THE FOLLOWING OPERATION:
A. TYPE "SY F-S" <CR>
YOU WILL RECEIVE ONE LINE OF TEXT SIMILAR TO:
5* DET FE F-S
EXPLAINATION: THE NUMBER 5 IDICATES THE JOB NUMBER
DET INDICATES A "DETACHED" STATE
FE INDICATES THE PROGRAM RUNNING
F-S IDICATES THE USER.
(NOTE: THE NUMBER 5 IS USED FOR EXAMPLE PURPOSES
ONLY. IN YOUR SITUATION, IT MAY BE ANOTHER NUMBER)
B. TO ATTACH TO THIS JOB, TYPE AS FOLLOWS:
ATT$F-S 5 <CR>
(THE $ CHARACTER INDICATES THE "ESCAPE", OR THE
"ALT-MODE" KEY.) YOU WILL BE PROMPTED: PASSWORD:
AFTER TYPING IN THE CORRECT PASSWORD, YOU WILL BE
"ATTACHED" TO THIS JOB.
AFTER ATTACHING TO THIS JOB,
TYPE TWO CONTROL C'S (^C ^C). YOUR PROMPT SHOULD BE:
$
18. NOW THAT YOU HAVE TRANSFERED ALL OF THE FILES OVER TO
THE -11 SIDE FRONT END AREA, THE DISK AREA MUST BE
"CLEANED" TO FREE UP MUCH NEEDED DISK SPACE. THE CONTENTS
OF THE <1-DIAGNOSTICS>, THE <2-DIAGNOSTICS>, AND THE
<3-DIAGNOSTICS> AREAS WILL PRETTY MUCH REMAIN INTACT.
19. TYPE THE FOLLOWING: ATT <4-DIAGNOSTICS>
DELETE *.*
EXPUNGE
ATT <5-DIAGNOSTICS>
DELETE *.*
EXPUNGE
ATT <6-DIAGNOSTICS>
DELETE *.*
EXPUNGE
ATT <7-DIAGNOSTICS>
DELETE *.*
EXPUNGE
ATT <8-DIAGNOSTICS>
DELETE *.*
EXPUNGE
20. IN ADDITION, IT MAY BE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE TO
OBTAIN A COPY OF "MAGTAP.DIR" FROM TAPE #1 OF
THE DIAGNOSTICS MAG-TAPE, AND SELECTIVELY DELETE
ALL UN-WANTED DIAGNOSTICS (E.G. RH10, RM10B, TU70,
RC10, DA28, ETC) FROM THE <2-DIAGNSOTICS> DIRECTORY.
THIS IS AN OPERATION THAT MAY BE PERFORMED AT YOUR
INDIVIDUAL DESCRETION.
A. MOUNT DIAGNOSTIC MAG-TAPE #1 ON UNIT 0
B. SKIP MTA0: 1 FILE
C. RUN MTA0: (THIS WILL RUN THE PROGRAM "MAGTAP")
D. GET MAGTAP.DIR
E. EXIT
F. IF YOU HAVE A LINE PRINTER, PRI MAGTAP.DIR
IF NOT, TYPE MAGTAP.DIR
(CAUTION -- EXTREMELY LONG FILE!)
LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, GOOD-LUCK! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY
PROBLEMS, BUT IF YOU DO, CALL THE "WAR-ROOM" IN MARLBORO
FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.!!!!!!
