1.0	^^SUMMARY\\
.SK 1
^THE <KL10 FRONT-END PACKAGE CONSISTS OF THE VARIOUS COMMAND FILES AND
PROGRAMS NECESSARY TO DO A COLD START ON THE <KL10. ^ALSO INCLUDED IN
THIS PACKAGE IS A CONTROL FILE TO CREATE A <DEC<TAPE CONTAINING THESE
NECESSARY FILES WHICH CAN BE READ BY THE <KL10'\S FRONT-END <PDP-11.
.B1
^THIS PACKAGE DOES NOT INCLUDE <KLDCP, A DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM THAT IS
THE FIRST NECESSARY STEP IN "COLD START" PROCEDURES. <KLDCP IS INSTEAD
DISTRIBUTED WITH THE OTHER HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS.
.B3
2.0	^^PACKAGE DESCRIPTION\\
.SK 1
<MON.BIN IS THE PROGRAM THAT RUNS IN THE CONSOLE <PDP-11 WHEN
<TOPS10 IS RUNNING. ^THIS PROGRAM ENABLES <TOPS10 TO USE THE <PDP-11
CONSOLE TELETYPE AS THE <CTY.
.SKIP 1
^THE FILES <BT_<128,256_>_<1,2,4_>.CMD BRING THE <KL10 ENTIRELY
THROUGH THE COLD START PROCEDURE, LEAVING <BOOTS RUNNING AT THE
CONSOLE TELETYPE.
^THE FILES <BOOTM_<1,2,4_>.CMD ALSO PERFORM THE COLD START
PROCEDURE FOR THE <KL10, BUT LEAVE <BOOTM, THE MAGTAPE BOOTSTRAP
PROGRAM RUNNING ON THE CONSOLE TERMINAL.
.SKIP 1
^THE FILES <BT_<128,256_>K.CCL AND <BOOTM.CCL LOAD AND START <BOOTS AND
<BOOTM, RESPECTIVELY.
.SKIP 1
^THE FILES <407.CMD, <KLHUNG.CMD, <TRACE.A11 ARE ALL USED
FOR SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE CRASHES. ^SEE <KLCCL.HLP AND THE TEXT
OF <KLHUNG.CMD FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
.SKIP 1
^THE <PMAKER PROGRAM, ALONG WITH <PAKMAK.CMD AND <RP04LD.CMD
CREATES A DIRECTORY ON THE DUAL PORTED <RP04 WHICH THE <KL10'\S FRONT-END <PDP-11 CAN READ
INSTEAD OF THE FRONT-END <DEC<TAPE.
^THE FILE <RP04LD.ABS CONTAINS THE LOADER WHICH BOOTSTRAPS <KLDCP FROM THE <RP04,
AND IS INCLUDED IN THE <KL10 FRONT-END PACKAGE.
^WHEN THE <RP04LD.CMD COMMAND FILE IS EXECUTED BY THE <PMAKER PROGRAM,
A COPY OF THE SECONDARY LOADER IS WRITTEN OUT TO THE MAINTENANCE
CYLINDERS OF THE <RP04. ^SEE <MIG602 FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
.SKIP 1
^THE FILE <KLTAPE.CTL WILL CREATE A <KL10 FRONT-END TAPE CONTAINING
ALL THE FILES NECESSARY FOR A COLD START EXCEPT <KLDCP
USING FILES ON [10,7]. <KLDCP IS PROVIDED ON ANOTHER TAPE AS PART OF THE DIAGNOSTIC
SOFTWARE KIT FOR THE <KL10 PROCESSOR.
.PG
^THE <CONVRT PROGRAM IS USED TO GENERATE <.A10 FORMAT FILES
FROM <.SAV FILES. ^THESE <.A10 FORMAT FILES ARE <ASCII<ZED <.SAV FILES, AND ARE
THE ONLY TYPE OF -10 CORE IMAGE FILES THAT <KLDCP WILL LOAD INTO -10
CORE. <BOOTS AND <BOOTM OBJECT FILES MUST BE CONVERTED INTO <.A10 FILES
BEFORE BEING USED BY THE <KL10 FRONT-END.
.B3.LM0
3.0	^^KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES\\
.SKIP 1
^THE <CONVRT PROGRAM CANNOT DEAL CORRECTLY WITH <.SAV FILES
WHICH SPECIFY A CORE IMAGE ENDING AT 777777. ^AN <.A10 FILE HAS A LINE
WHICH SPECIFIES THE START AND END ADDRESSES OF THE CORE IMAGE
IT DESCRIBES. ^IF THIS CORE IMAGE ENDS EXACTLY AT 777777, THE END
ADDRESS IN THE <.A10 FILE BECOMES ZERO AND <KLDCP, WHICH NORMALLY CLEARS
OUT THE AREA INTO WHICH THE PROGRAM IS ABOUT TO BE LOADED, CLEARS
ALL OF CORE INSTEAD. ^FOR THIS REASON, THE 256^K VERSION OF <BOOTS
(<BT256K.A10) SHOULD BE ASSEMBLED WITH THE ASSEMBLY PARAMETER <CORE=777000
INSTEAD OF 1000000.

.B3
4.0	^^INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS\\
.SKIP 1
^OBTAIN THE CORRECT VERSION OF THE MICROCODE, AND PUT IT ON [10,7]
IN THE FILE <U.RAM.
^PRODUCE A COPY OF <BOOTM.SAV FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN <BOOTM.MEM, OR
USE THE COPY OF <BOOTM.SAV PROVIDED ON THE DISTRIBUTION TAPE. ^NEXT,
PRODUCE COPIES OF <BT128K.SAV AND <BT256K.SAV BY ASSEMBLING A COPY OF
<BOOTS VERSION 20 OR GREATER WITH <FTKL10==-1 AND <CORE=400000, <CORE=777000, RESPECTIVELY.
^RUN THE <CONVRT PROGRAM, AND CREATE <BT128K.A10, <BT256K.A10, AND
<BOOTM.A10.
^LIST A COPY OF <KLTAPE.CTL, AND MAKE SURE ALL THE FILES THAT ARE NEEDED
FOR INPUT ARE ON [10,7]. ^SUBMIT THE CONTROL FILE, AND MOUNT A BLANK
<DEC<TAPE FOR THE JOB WHEN <OMOUNT ASKS FOR THE '<KL TAPE'.
.SKIP 2
^INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUTTING THE <KL10 FRONT-END FILES ON AN <RP04
PACK WITH <PMAKER CAN BE FOUND IN <MIG602. <PAKMAK.CMD AND <RP04LD.CMD
ARE USED FOR THIS PURPOSE.
