UNITE
-----
THE FORTRAN PROGRAM UNITE MAY BE USED TO FACILITATE THE ANALYSIS
BY THE PROGRAM CROSS OF SURVEYS CONTAINING TOO MANY QUESTIONS
FOR ALL RESPONSES TO BE WRITTEN INTO ONE DATA FILE. THE QUES-
TIONNAIRE SHOULD BE DIVIDED INTO PARTS OF NOT MORE THAN 128
QUESTIONS AND THE PROGRAM SURVEY USED TO CREATE A SEPARATE DATA
FILE FOR EACH PART. RESPONSES TO SETS OF CONSECUTIVE QUESTIONS
TAKEN FROM TWO DIFFERENT PARTS (UP TO A TOTAL OF 128) MAY THEN
BE UNITED IN A NEW DATA FILE.
PROGRAM UNITE
DESCRIPTION
THIS PROGRAM COMBINES TWO FILES OF RESPONSES TO DIFFERENT QUES-
TIONS BY THE SAME RESPONDENTS.
SOURCE
NORMAN W. JOHNSON, DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS, WHEATON COLLEGE,
NORTON, MASS.
INSTRUCTIONS
CODED RESPONSES TO THE TWO SETS OF QUESTIONS SHOULD BE WRITTEN
INTO ASCII DATA FILES BY THE PROGRAM SURVEY. THE ORDER OF THE
RESPONDENTS AND THE FIRST 4 CHARACTERS OF THE 5-CHARACTER IDEN-
TIFICATION OF EACH RESPONDENT SHOULD BE THE SAME IN BOTH FILES.
THE PROGRAM WILL REQUEST THE NAMES OF THE TWO FILES TO BE UNITED
AND, FOR EACH, THE RANGE OF QUESTIONS TO BE INCLUDED. THE USER
SHOULD ENTER EITHER THE WORD "ALL", TWO NUMBERS JOINED BY A HY-
PHEN TO INDICATE A BLOCK OF CONSECUTIVE QUESTIONS, OR ONE NUMBER
FOR A SINGLE QUESTION. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF QUESTIONS INCLUDED
FROM BOTH FILES MUST NOT EXCEED 128. THE TWO FILES WILL BE
CHECKED TO SEE THAT THE NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS AND THEIR IDENTI-
FICATIONS AGREE. THE PROGRAM WILL ALSO ASK FOR THE NAME (NOT
MORE THAN 5 CHARACTERS) THAT THE NEW DATA FILE IS TO HAVE AND
FOR A DESCRIPTION OF THE SURVEY (NOT MORE THAN 48 CHARACTERS).
MORE THAN TWO FILES CAN BE COMBINED BY REPEATED EXECUTIONS OF
THIS PROGRAM.
